Pastor Ron shared today from Luke 17:11-16

Ten Lepers Cleansed

11 Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. 12 Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. 13 And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”

14 So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.

15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.

Jesus went to an area where He usually wasn’t. Because of all that He had done and taught at this point, He was famous. Everywhere Jesus went He made a difference. The lepers had surely heard of Him and when they heard he was near they called out from a distance Jesus, Master, Have mercy now on us! They could not approach Jesus directly because of the Laws so they called out from a distance. The lepers acknowledged Jesus power by calling on His name, by calling Him master they invited His Lordship in their lives. When Jesus saw them, He didn’t lay hands on them, or speak a fancy prayer…He simply gave a command…”Go present yourself to the High Priest). The simple straightforward command evokes memories of the story of Naaman’s Leprosy in 2nd Kings when Elisha told Naaman to dip in the Jordan seven-times, and Naaman almost didn’t do it, but when he was obedient and dipped in the Jordan not once, but seven times, He was healed of his leprosy. So as these Lepers were on the way to the High Priest, and because of their obedience Jesus,  their leprosy disappeared. Of those 10, one of them turned back to thank Jesus for healing him (The Word does not say, we can only give speculation about what happened to the other 9 lepers Jesus healed in this miracle). The Bible records the gratitude of this one leper. As believers and lovers of God we must remember to give God the glory for the things he is doing, and the things he has already done.

A Blind Man Receives His Sight

35 Then it happened, as He was coming near Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the road begging. 36 And hearing a multitude passing by, he asked what it meant. 37 So they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. 38 And he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

39 Then those who went before warned him that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

40 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be brought to Him. And when he had come near, He asked him, 41 saying, “What do you want Me to do for you?”

He said, “Lord, that I may receive my sight.”

42 Then Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.” 43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed Him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.

The Blind Man also had heard of Jesus and realized that Jesus was his only hope. He cried out loudly like the lepers even acknowledging he was the Messiah calling Him the Son of David. The people around him tried to silence Him but He got louder and louder. He didn’t let people stand in the way of him and Jesus! Then Jesus commanded him to receive his sight and he was made well. He glorified God and others to glorified God because of it.

We must not let the distractions of the world keep us from Jesus, and we must remember that for everything we have, Physical, Intangible, and Spritual, the Lord has blessed us with these things and we must give the glory to Him!
