Today is Thanksgiving and we have so much to be thankful for. We are thankful for the air that we breathe, the place we call home, and the ones who we love. We are thankful for God’s grace and mercy given to us, His love that He shows us, and the Sacrifice he made for us. We are thankful for His restoration, reconciliation, and provision. God is so good. As I ponder upon the many things I have to be thankful for, I reflect upon the words of Hymn writer Johnson Oatman, Jr. who penned these timeless lyrics to a favorite old Hymn in 1897. As you take the time to read these sentiments, take a moment to consider the blessings God has bestowed upon your life.

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS

When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God has done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your many blessings, see what God has done.
Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
And you will keep singing as the days go by.

Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God has done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your many blessings, see what God has done.
When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings—*money cannot buy [*wealth can never buy]
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.

Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God has done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your many blessings, see what God has done.
So, amid the conflict whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God has done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your many blessings, see what God has done.

The Word of God tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” We should be thankful to God each and every day and remember to count our many blessings.

JESUS LOVES YOU!
