Today In America, we celebrate Memorial Day honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Once called Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became officially became a federal holiday in 1971.

Today we remember the more than1.3 million Americans who have died in our nation’s wars. Thank you for your service.
